Margaret LeAnn Rimes Cibrian, born on August 28, 1982, is an accomplished American singer, songwriter, and actress. She gained prominence in the country music scene at the young age of 13 with her hit song "Blue" in 1996. Since then, she has successfully ventured into pop, contemporary Christian, and various other genres. Rimes has achieved remarkable success with over 40 singles on international charts and worldwide record sales of over 37 million copies. In the United States alone, her album sales have reached 20.8 million according to Nielsen SoundScan. Billboard recognized her as the 17th highest-selling artist of the 1990-2000 decade.
Raised in Texas, Rimes exhibited her exceptional singing talent from a tender age. Encouraged by her parents, she participated in musical theater and local music competitions, gradually gaining a devoted local following. Rimes recorded two studio albums as a young teenager, catching the attention of Nashville label Curb Records. At the age of 13, she signed with Curb and released the highly successful album "Blue," which produced a top ten hit on the country songs chart. The album sold over six million copies and established Rimes as a prominent country artist.
In 1997, Rimes made a successful crossover into pop music with the release of "How Do I Live," which became one of the bestselling singles of the 1990s. She continued to achieve crossover success with hits like "I Need You" and "Can't Fight the Moonlight." In the 2000s, Rimes explored different musical styles, releasing pop-inspired albums like "Twisted Angel" in 2002 and a Christmas record titled "What a Wonderful World" in 2004. She returned to her country roots with the album "This Woman" in 2005, which spawned three country hits. Another album project titled "Family" followed in 2007.
Rimes's personal life garnered significant media attention when she ended her professional relationship with her father as her manager and began an affair with actor Eddie Cibrian after appearing together in the television film "Northern Lights" in 2009. The ups and downs of this relationship and her personal struggles inspired her 2013 album "Spitfire."
Following her departure from Curb Records, Rimes released a series of Christmas recordings and made a comeback with the pop-flavored studio album "Remnants" in 2016, featuring successful dance club hits. Her most recent album, "Chant: The Human & the Holy," released in 2020, explores personal mantras and chants inspired by her mental health journey. Alongside her music career, Rimes has also pursued acting, appearing in various feature and television films such as "Good Intentions" (2010), "Reel Love" (2011), and "It's Christmas, Eve" (2018). She even made a guest appearance as herself in the Netflix series "Country Comfort" (2021).
